A very beautiful connection of trails with lots of places to stop and overlook the water or other sites. Great for biking and hiking but bikers beware, about a couple miles of the trail coming from the North Carolina border is a lot of a soft sand that you will need to got off and push. These trails are avoidable though, and don't pose much of a problem to hikers. The trails are clearly marked with plenty of detailed markers on the way, and the visitor's center is a great place to stop, refill water, hit the bathroom, shop for snacks/supplies, or enjoy the AC. The rangers are extremely friendly and helpful.
Wonderful park, the trails are maintained very well. I recommend it for anyone that likes cycling and/or hiking. I can't wait to go back, my only gripe is that I live so far away but that's not the parks fault! I had an enjoyable experience to say the least and recommend it to anyone who loves the outdoors.
Great winter tram tour in conjunction with back bay national wildlife refuge. Saw many of the migrating birds, racoon, turtle, and deer! Highly recommend
Very secluded. Hike, bike, or boat are the only ways into the park. Staff and facilities are outstanding. I have bike and hike camped here. Mosquito repellent is a Must for group sites! If you're prepared then you will have a good time.
One of the best places in VA for solitude and primitive camping... you can walk, bike or paddle in for one of only 12 camp sites. The pure nature and peace are well worth the effort! The visitor center is excellent and can provide a brief break from the heat. Most of the time, you can look to the horizon on the beach and not see another person.
