Deserves 0 stars..Huge disappointment. We ordered the meatloaf and mashed potatoes. Both items were tasteless. The mashed potatoes were not instant. However, they had no resemblance to any mashed potatoes I have ever tasted. No butter, salt or milk. Basically, a hard , coarse , smashed boiled potato with skin.

I ordered the turkey wings and they were unseasoned swimming in brown water. The yams tasted like the filling for a sweet potato pie, with too much vanilla extract. The green beans ( no comment). The Mac was the best thing on the tray. Never again.

Went to the Newport News location on Warwick tonight 9/7/17. I was pleasantly surprised. My husband and I tried the

I heard a lot of good things about this place and everything was better than expected. I ordered the catfish and it was some of the best I've had around here. The mac n cheese is out of this world. The yams are amazing. The mixed greens are full of flavor. If your looking for some authentic soul food for a decent price then this is the place for you. Compared to other soul food restaurants this one is fairly cleaner. Overall great food and friendly staff. 5 stars for sure!

This was our first and last visit.

curry chicken, meatloaf (that was only item I really didn't care for. My husband liked it. I thought it was bland and greasy) sausage and rice, with cabbage, cornbread, mac and cheese, string beans, and yams. And yummy banana pudding! We don't know soul food restaurants but thought it was pretty good. We look forward to coming back. It reminds me of home-cooked and cafeteria comfort food in a good way. Staff was friendly, place was clean. While I was there, another lady who is clearly a happy regular expressed her compliments.

My first visit was bad due to terrible customer service. The young lady could not answer any questions I had about the food. She also displayed an altitude because I was shock that she knew nothing. I did return a while later and better service. My next issue are there sides. Beside not really being homemade the sides are not good and often dry. So I decided to get double green beans because that is the only tasty side they have. Do you know they charge an extra dollar for double sided. Wow Really?!? I'm trying to "Can" with this place but "I CANNOT". How do you charge someone to get double sides. I feel like I'm being punished for them having only one good side.

We had a second side, but it's not worth mentioning.

The meatloaf was equally as awful. Bland and absolutely no seasoning .
