I'm rating Jake's 5 stars simply for the amazing service that Amy provided. This woman was moving from the time we sat down until we left-but you could never tell by her friendly demeanor. Good customer service can be hard to come by in DC, but Amy has restored our faith! Oh and the corn fritters are amazing!
We arrived early, and were seated promptly. Our waitress was also prompt. Within 10 minutes or so, we had our drinks and our orders placed. I ordered the two meat combo, pulled chicken and pulled pork. The meat was tasty, but dry. The side selections are plentiful, but underwhelming.
Service was less than spectacular to say the least. Server acted as if we were bothering her when we needed refills. Checked on us a couple times but never stopped walking. Food was slow coming out. Brisket was extremely dry, like it was smoked and sliced the day before we ordered it, so they just reheated it. Ribs were decent. Willing to give them another try in the future, maybe today was a bad day
I wish I had better things to say about this family barbecue restaurant that has been in this location for so many years, I can't remember. It just isn't very clean and the food choices are overly basic... Unless you only order meats. So go here if you like a sad salad and overly cooked vegetable sides but a good selection of various barbecued meats. Maybe it's just not my thing.
I ordered to-go and was pretty surprised that it was very good. I ordered the pulled pork BBQ sandwich (perfect and tender pork) with hush puppies (soooo good!). My husband got the Carolina style BBQ sandwich which was super dry and not good. Our kids got the ribs which were really good as well. Overall I would return and recommend based off my first experience.
