Doors opened one hour before show time but only to the lobby which is rather small, provides no seating and and only a few highboy tables to set a drink on. No one was allowed to enter the auditorium until thirty minutes before show time leaving attendees standing in a cramped lobby, coats and drink in hand waiting to be seated. Once the doors opened the volunteer handed a playbill to my friend and when I asked for one she told me "only one per family". I don't know if this is a Sandler policy or the volunteer's rule but it needs to change. All ticket holders are entitled to receive a playbill. The house did not blink the house lights to indicate the show was about to begin at the beginning nor intermission leaving attendees scrambling to their seats during the performance interrupting those already seated and trying to enjoy the performance. A little education on theate etiquette would be helpful here.
The main theatre is beautiful and a fantastic place to view a performance. The black box theatre is a great room for small performances and events. I especially have enjoyed the "Out of the box" concerts there.
Attended a Virginia Symphony concert. The main work was Beethoven's Second Symphony.
Excellent acoustics. Not a bad seat in the house. My only complaint was the over zealous, very intrusive elderly security lady who made it her mission to threaten people she was going to get security to have them removed from the concert because they were video taping Amos Lee. Is videotaping against the policies? Yes. Was 1/3 to 1/2 of the audience videotaping? Yes. Is it her job to stop videotaping? Maybe. Did she actually succeed in having the select few she targeted out of many videotapers in the back left corner of the theater stop videotaping? NO. She only succeeded in distracting us who were not videotaping. Sigh....
Spoke with some really kind and helpful people and went to the Beauty and the Beast play with my then girlfriend. I reached out and was able to set up a proposal with the staff and the rest is history. Very grateful to the people that helped me give my girl a dream proposal!
